The core 43 CFR Part 3160 series regulations govern all exploration, development, and production operations of oil and gas deposits on leases issued or approved by the United States.

43 CFR Subpart 3170 defines Condition of Approval, explains the regulatory variance request process, and stipulates applicable federal recordkeeping requirements.
